The Aquanuts were founded in 1972 by Karl Schuberth, Gary Borowki, and Kent Yunker. Initially named the Twin Lakes Water Ski Team, they rebranded as the Aquanuts in 1973 and established Lance Park as their official location. Quickly gaining attention, they attracted major sponsors like Dr. Pepper and local marine vendors, putting the Aquanuts firmly on the map.
The Aquanuts are not just performers; they compete in National and World Championships. In 1977, they secured 1st place in the State Competition. By 1982, they had won both 1st place in State and Nationals. Over the years, the Aquanuts have won over 100 awards, including 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishes, Best, and highest scores at the National level. For 2021 & 2022 they totaled 6x National State Championship Titles and claimed Wisconsin State Title. The Aquanuts have also been chosen to represent Team USA in the World Championships, solidifying their stellar reputation.
Beyond their competitive success, they offer programs for individuals with physical disabilities, providing special equipment to ensure everyone can enjoy the thrill of water skiing.
My Experience
What a fun experience this was! Even though I wasn't out there skiing, I could feel the excitement of the skiers and absolutely loved the thrill of the show! The pure talent that these skiers have is beyond impressive. The announcers were fantastic and cracked jokes making the show extra fun.
We arrived at Lance Park about 30min prior to the show starting. We had no issues finding a spot to sit and parking our chairs. One thing that was really nice was the auditorium type setup to watch the show. They have concrete/brick layered levels that provided plenty of room for you to place your folding chair. Unless the person in front of you is standing, you'll have a great view! You can also bring a blanket to sit on the lawn for a picnic type setting. If you have a boat, you can watch the show from the lake!
The show was thrilling to watch and fast paced. The skiers ranged in age from as young as 5 to middle-aged. I can't wait to see what's next from the Aquanuts in summer 2026!
