When it comes to going out to enjoy a meal with family or friends, people like to go where they can have an all-around good experience. Does the restaurant have a welcoming atmosphere? Does the building have a decorative design that's pleasing to the eye? and most importantly, is the food good? Well, at the BBQ King Smokehouse and Tavern it is definitely one of those places where you can say "Yes!" to all three.

The BBQ King Smokehouse and Tavern is nicely placed in the center of the updated development of downtown Huntley, Illinois. The outside of the building is well designed and decorated the same as the inside. So, when it comes to their outdoor seating, you'll still be able to enjoy their sleek rustic atmosphere. When you walk in, you'll notice the vintage street signs and recycled barn wood decoratively placed for a relaxing feel. Before you even notice the welcoming smile of the host you will catch the aroma of the smoked meats waiting to be served to you. Your mouth will start to water before you even see a menu.

The BBQ King Smokehouse and Tavern was all started by Jason Szmurlo and his brother. Jason had perfected his passion for grilling food for his family and friends. His cooking hobby had become a hit and developed a catering company by offering catering services and doing pig roasts. With his growing success his brother joined him on his BBQ journey. They headed south to the Kansas City Barbecue Society Competition Circuit and entered the BBQ competitions. In every competition that they entered, they were placed in the top 5. On November 7th, 2018 Jason and his brother opened their doors to the BBQ King Smokehouse and Tavern in Huntley, IL. They have been getting positive feedback from happy customers ever since.

My Experience

One of the best ways to find out about a restaurant is through word of mouth. That is how I learned about BBQ King Smokehouse and Tavern. When I heard about them, I knew I had to try. Once I arrived, I was very pleased with what I saw and was ready to eat. When my dish was served, I noticed that they didn't put any sauce on the meat. You add it to your liking. They have three signature sauces to choose from and you choose how much you want. I've been to too many places where they would serve the sauce already on. Which is fine however, sometimes the sauce would be dumped, and the food would be swimming on my plate. It was refreshing to be able to have control of how much I wanted on my food. I had ordered the brisket and when I took my first bite, it was glorious. The meat had a nice bark from their hickory wood smoker and charcoal. I don't know how long that brisket was cooked for but, wow, it was super tender. It was easy to pull a part like butter. A melt in your mouth kind of delicious texture. I enjoyed their original flavored sauce the best, but the meat was so flavorful and tender on its own. You can easily eat the meat just by itself, if you prefer. If you love that outdoor cooking flavor and style, the BBQ King Smokehouse and Tavern is a must try.
