Savor the Flavors of Britton's Cafe: A Breakfast Haven for Foodie Lovers in Ely, Minnesota

Updated: Oct 3

Take a seat and enjoy some delicious breakfast!

Britton's Cafe is a very popular breakfast spot in Ely, Minnesota. Once you sit down and take the first bite of your dish, you will see why. The cafe is more on the smaller size but the food portions are huge! The meals are reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. You'll definitely want to take home the leftovers! The menu consists of many variations of their own creative specialty dishes while still providing traditional breakfasts. If your feeling adventurous, try the new Breaded Crab Cake Omelet or Chicken Fajita Omelet. The unique flavors will keep you wanting to come back for more. Be sure to bring cash or check! Credit cards are not accepted due to the costs of credit card fees.

When you walk in you'll notice the decor on the walls with catchy phrases and sayings. It makes good conversation pieces to point out or fun to look around while you wait for your food to be served. With the cafe being more on the smaller size and with the food tasting so good, it's no surprise that it's expected to have a line out the door. You'll want to plan accordingly and expect you'll have to wait for a bit before being seated. The wait is well worth it!

The building itself has gone through different types of businesses and renovations but it was George and Shirley Britton that started the Britton's Cafe in 1968. Shirley Britton had ran the breakfast cafe for 27 years. In 1995 Shirley sold Britton's Cafe to Bonnie Jacobson who still owns it today pleasing the palate of the breakfast lovers.

My Experience

When I first walked up I noticed the line waiting outside. I was a bit concerned considering I had my kids with me and every parent knows that if you don't feed a hungry child within a curtain time frame then you're going to have a melt down. Luckily, the kids were willing to wait and, surprisingly, the wait didn't take too long. We only waited about 15 to 20 minutes. Walking in, I enjoyed the inviting rustic atmosphere with friendly staff. My server made me feel like I was saying "hi" to a friend that I haven't seen in years. The menu of choices were great! I loved how I could get a simple breakfast or try something more unique that I most likely won't find somewhere else. The food was delicious! The french toast wasn't dry and had flavor even without the syrup. When I asked my daughter on her thoughts she said "It's like heaven." The pancake really hit the spot and covered the whole plate! For me, I decided to try something a little different and got the Veggie Stuffed Hashbrowns. I'm so glad I did! It was hardy with the veggies and packed with so much flavor. The hashbrowns were made perfect leaving a crispy outside and softer on the inner side. Each bite was a delight with no over powering crispy crunch. I didn't mind the portions sizes being so big because I was excited to take leftovers home to have for later. If you're in the town of Ely, Minnesota the Britton's Cafe is a must stop breakfast spot!
